Join local farmers, ranchers and sustainable food advocates working to establish an integrated network where local California farmers can connect, collaborate and find resources they need to thrive. A new chapter is forming in Napa and whether you’re new to farming, or come from a family that has farmed for generations, everyone has something to learn and share. The Farmers Guild believes that a healthy and robust food system is founded on real relationships between agriculture and those who depend on it. By stimulating stronger local economies, members help create social equity and sustain natural resources. The group’s core values include: sustainability, cooperation and inclusivity and supporting the economic viability of local agriculture and the social networks necessary to attract, cultivate and sustain a new generation of farmers ready to work the land and build a healthier food system. With the average age of the American farmer reaching 60 and the need for innovative methods to grow food more sustainably, the best way to insure the future of our food, communities and planet, is to assure that we have an educated, creative and thoughtful new generation of farmers. If you’re not a farmer, you can still be part of this new community of local eaters, farmland champions and agrarian heroes. There’s no commitment, only a desire to engage with your food, community and local farms in a meaningful way; and lots of ways to take action: from joining a local CSA, leasing your backyard to an aspiring farmer, attending a Farmers Guild barn party, or offering your own expertise to other farmers. Financial assistance is available for continued education in the fields of land stewardship, animal husbandry, marketing, soil science, business planning, water conservation and other skills that promote their success as food producers.
